Arthur's Obituary

 

Arthur W. Johnson, passed away August 31, 2017 at the River Ridge Retirement Community in South Haven surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 10, 1926 to Arthur and Freda Johnson in South Haven. Arthur honorably served his country in the United States Navy during World War II from 1944 to 1946. Returning home from service, Arthur married Constance M. Ridley on July 12, 1947. Arthur was a member of the Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church where he served as usher president and church council.

Arthur loved spending time with family, attending the many sports activities by his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed flying his airplane with Flying farmers of America, enjoyed boating and camping in Michigan and time on Saddle Lake. After retiring in 1989, Arthur and Connie spent winters in Englewood, Florida.

He is preceded in death along with his parents by two brothers – Robert and Lauren Johnson.

Arthur is survived by his wife of 70 years – Constance M. Johnson, children – Carolyn M. Peters, Terry (Pam) and Jim (Barb) Johnson, and Judy (Doug) Helmer, grandchildren – Nicole M. Hargrove, Jason (Michelle) Johnson, Cameron Johnson, Laura (Bart) Adkin, and Matthew Johnson, great grandchildren – Zachary Hargrove, and Elizabeth and Jenna Johnson, and brother – Howard (Joanne) Johnson.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Friday, September 8, 2017 at the Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Haven. Memorial services will follow visitation at 12:00 PM with Pastor Travis Wilson officiating at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Arthur’s memory to Caring Circle Hospice at Home, 05055 Blue Star Highway, South Haven, Michigan 49090 or to the Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 06321 Blue Star Highway, South Haven, Michigan 49090.
