Gordon's Obituary
Gordon James McDonald,83, of Hartford, passed away unexpectedly Monday, September 25, 2017 at the Bronson Hospital of South Haven, Michigan. He was born June 20, 1934 in Cavalier, North Dakota the son of James and Gladys (Solberg) McDonald. He attended school in Cavalier and joined the National Guard in 1949. He entered the United States Army on September 1, 1950 and was honorably discharged in January of 1951.
In 1954, Gordon moved to Plentywood, Montana and worked construction. He married Lorraine Johnson on February 5, 1957 in Edinburg, North Dakota. They moved to Cavalier in 1960 where he worked for Abrahamson Bros. Construction until 1967. He later moved to Hartford, Michigan and worked construction until his retirement in 1996. Gordon married Doris Smith on September 18, 1991.
Gordon loved to visit with friends and family, play pool, golf, and card games. He enjoyed having fun.
He is preceded in death by his parents – James and Gladys McDonald, by sister – Irene Stoffer, brothers – Marvin and George McDonald, and special friend – Connie Graves.
Gordon is survived by his children – Jim (Sherry) McDonald, Gail (Amos) Fernandez, Tim (Jenny) McDonald, Todd and Twyla Crosby, step-children – Donna (Al) Holmer, Linda Gober, Sheila (Tony) Smith, Sheri Hoard, Terry Ridge; siblings – Joyce (Jack) Trottier, Betty (Bob) Olafson, Linda (Junie) Doyle, and John (Sandy) McDonald; 22 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 1:00 PM on Friday, September 29, 2017 at the American Legion Post 362 in Coloma, 351 E. St. Joseph Street, Coloma, Michigan 49038.
