Robert "Bob" Warren Hornbeck

Robert “Bob” Hornbeck, 96, of South Haven, formerly of Holland, Harbor Springs, and Indian River, Michigan, passed away Thursday, November 2, 2017 at the Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. He was born February 18, 1921 to Warren and Margaret “Agnes” (Franklin) in Highland Park, Michigan. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. Bob married Lorrena “Rena” Neil on August 26, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan. They shared 70 years of marriage until her passing in 2014. Bob worked for General Motors for 30 years and Continental Aviation for ten years before retiring in 1979. He enjoyed being outdoors including sailing, skiing, running, cycling, and swimming. Bob spent many hours wood working making furniture, clocks, boats and many other items. He earned a Master’s degree in engineering from the University of Michigan. Bob was a member of the First United Methodist Church in South Haven.

He is preceded in death along with his parents and wife by his brother – William Sheldon Hornbeck.

Bob is survived by his children – Nancy (John) Kneeland of South Haven and Neil Hornbeck of Malvern, Pennsylvania, and three grandchildren – Emily Hornbeck, and Zachary and Lindsey Kneeland.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at the Acacia Park Cemetery in Beverly Hills, Michigan with Pastor Virginia Heller officiating. Bob will be laid to rest next to his beloved Rena. Contributions may be made in Bob’s memory to the First United Methodist Church in South Haven, 429 Michigan Avenue, South Haven, Michigan 49090.
