Marion's Obituary
Marion LaRue Toney, 86, of South Haven, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2019 at his home under Hospice care with his family by his side. Marion was born November 27, 1932 to Fax and Edna (Hudson) Toney in Berrien Center, Michigan. Marion married Betty Carter on October 11, 1953 in Volinia, Michigan. Marion started working on the family farm in Keeler Township at the age of nine. He graduated from Dowagiac Union High School in 1951. He received his American Farmers Award from the FFA. He later worked at Lovejoy in South Haven for 31 years, starting as a foreman and then as a project engineer. He had a gift for fixing machinery. He loved to fish out on Lake Michigan and enjoyed riding his John Deere tractor. He was a member of the Michigan Fly Wheelers and was a former member of the Hartford School Board. Marion was a former Bishop of the Benton Harbor Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Marion is survived by his wife – Betty Toney, children – Paula (Stephen) Egbert of San Diego, CA, Michele (Gregg) Carlson of South Haven, Dale (Rene) Toney of Elkhart, IN, Duane (Laura) Toney of Centerville, UT, and Mark (Lori) Toney of South Haven, brother – Robert (Joan) Toney of Zephyr Hills, FL, 23 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints in South Haven, 05272 73rd ½ street, South Haven, Michigan 49090. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 11:00 AM with President Lincoln Osbon officiating at the church. Marion will be laid to rest at Union Cemetery in Berrien Center, MI. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Marion’s memory to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 or to the LDS Humanitarian Aid Fund. The family would like to thank Home Sweet Home and Southern Care Hospice for their kind support.
