Genevieve's Obituary
Genevieve Victoria Altenburg, 95, of South Haven, passed away on Friday, July 19, 2019 at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo. She was born September 30, 1923 to William and Mary (Ryan) Chinni in Toledo, Ohio. Genevieve married John Altenburg on October 16, 1942 in Illinois. She worked for Controlled Rubber for 26 years, retiring in 1982. Genevieve attended the Church of the Nazarene and Anchor Baptist Church both in South Haven. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting, and loved working outdoors in her big flower garden.
She is preceded in death by her husband and eleven siblings.
Genevieve is survived by her children – Linda (Lewis) Willett of South Haven, Jacqueline (Robert) Ware of Mesa, Arizona, Sue McCash of Bangor, John (Susan) Altenburg of Colorado Springs, Colorado; siblings – William Chinni, Mary Barnes, and George Chinni, all of Toledo, Ohio; nine grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will be held Monday, July 22, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at The Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, July 23, at 11 :00 AM at Anchor Baptist Church with Pastor Dillon Wiltshire officiating. Memorial contributions may be made in Genevieve’s memory to Caring Circle Hospice at Home, 05055 Blue Star Hwy, South Haven, MI 49090.
