Charlotte Johannsen

Charlotte Johannsen, 83, of Benton Harbor passed away Saturday, November 17, 2018 at West Woods of Bridgman.  Charlotte was born October 24, 1935, near Colome, SD, to Theodore & Florence Kahler. She graduated from Northwestern Lutheran Academy in Mobridge, SD, in 1954. On June 14, 1958, she married Hans Johannsen. After living in Mount Lake Terrace, WA, the two moved to Benton Harbor in 1961. Charlotte was a school teacher; she taught in South Dakota and St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Stevensville. In later years, Charlotte was a custodian at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Benton Harbor, of which she was also a proud member.  Charlotte is survived by her son, James (Lisa) Johannsen of Eau Claire, MI; daughter, Thekla (Angelo) Wilson of Brighton, CO; grandchildren, Dominique Wilson, and Kahler, Kyle, and Kenleigh Johannsen; great-grandchild, Andre Wilson; sister, Helen Nessen of Snohomish, WA; and brother; Daniel Kahler of Kea’Au, HI.  Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore & Florence; husband, Hans; and sister, Caroline Hofer.  A private service will take place at a later date. Memorials may be made to St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church – Benton Harbor or Michigan Lutheran High School – St. Joseph.
