Shari's Obituary
Our beloved Shari passed away suddenly on October 29th, 2018 at the age of 74.
Shari was born June 28, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois. She was a graduate of Lakeshore High School and attended Western Michigan University. She worked for Continental Can for 30 years as an accounting clerk and then more recently for Whirlpool-KitchenAid as a Marketing Support Specialist. She volunteered extensively with the Berrien County Democratic Women. She was particularly proud of this work where she became secretary in 2012 and was awarded Woman of the Year in 2015.
Shari was a fierce defender of human rights and fighter for social justice. She was a brilliant political wonk and had a delightfully wry sense of humor. She was a deeply loving and loyal friend and family member. She doted on her nieces and her great nieces and nephews as if they were her own children and grandchildren. She was an irreplaceable one-of-a-kind woman who will be deeply missed by all whose lives were fortunate enough to be touched by hers.
She is survived by her brother Marc DelMariani (Mary), her nieces Ann DelMariani (Joshua Davis) and Cari DelMariani (Tyler Steketee) and five nieces and nephews: Tahlia, Theodore and Reuben Davis and Miles and Genevieve Steketee. She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Theodora (Bartolucci) DelMariani.
Memorial donations can be made to Berrien County Democratic Party or Benton Harbor Boys and Girls Club.
A celebration of life will be held June 22nd 2019 at The Heritage Museum and Cultural Center at 601 Main St. in St. Joseph, MI. Please join the family in remembrance and celebration of Shari’s life. We have a special day planned and are looking forward to reconnecting with family and friends in Shari’s honor. There will be a brief internment at Lincoln Township Cemetery (on St Joseph Ave.) at 11:00am. An open house at The Heritage Museum and Cultural Center from 2:00 to 5:00 will follow. Please spread the word.
