Louise's Obituary
Louise Skibbe passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, July 20, at the Hanson Hospice Center, after having enjoyed 100 years, 324 days of life.
Louise was born August 31,1917 in Moosehorn, Manitoba, Canada and emigrated to Saint Joseph MI in 1921 with her parents, Gustav and Alvina (Bucholtz) Schneider, older brother Adolph, twin brother Ludwig, and younger sister Angela.
She married Elmer Skibbe in 1939 and they spent 52 years together raising three children, Lois Skibbe Bull, Allen Skibbe, and Roger Skibbe.
Louise was a life long member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she served in Ladies’ Aid, Altar Guild, and other church functions well into her 90’s. She was also a supporter of the St. Joseph Public School Foundation and an avid fan of the Saint Joe Bears.
Louise was active all her life, working as a homemaker, waitress and cook for a variety of organizations, eventually retiring at age 80 from the cafeteria at Whirlpool. She enjoyed playing games, traveling, camping & spending time with her family.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Elmer Skibbe, her daughter Lois, and all of her siblings. She is survived by her two sons, five grandchildren and ten great grand children, all of whom were inspired by her abundant energy & optimism.
A graveside service will be held for family and friends at 2 pm on Monday, July 23, at Riverview Cemetery with Pastor Tom Batsky officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Louise’s memory to the St. Joseph Public Schools Foundation, The Heritage Museum, or Trinity Lutheran Church.
