Charles's Obituary
Charles Murray, 75, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 21, at his home in St. Joseph.
Chuck was born in Muskegon to Roy and Virginia Murray, the third of their five children. He attended St. Joseph Elementary School and graduated from Muskegon Catholic Central High School, where he played on the football and basketball teams. In college, he followed his love of art. He attended Muskegon Community College and got his Bachelor of Arts at Western Michigan University. He then earned a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Notre Dame. After teaching at Notre Dame as a graduate assistant, Chuck joined the faculty at Benton Harbor High School, where he taught for more than 30 years. After retirement, Chuck drove for another 10 years for Whirlpool Corp., transporting executives to and from O’Hare Airport. He had a lifelong love of the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing with high school and work friends. Chuck was also an accomplished outdoor artist.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou (Seymour); daughter, Susan (Foster) of Los Angeles; and son, Jason of Seattle; his sister, Carol (Kennedy) of North Muskegon; and brothers, Robert and William of San Francisco.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Phillip.
The family will be holding a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Chuck’s name to the National Audubon Society.
