Harold's Obituary
Harold J. Neuman, 78, of St. Joseph, went to his heavenly
home on Sunday, December 23, 2001 at Lakeland
Hospital-St. Joseph. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM
Thursday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home,
2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Burial will follow in Riverview
Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by Coloma
American Legion #362, Hartford American Legion #93, VFW
Post #1137-Benton Harbor & VFW Post #6803 Watervliet.
Friends may call from 4-7 PM Wednesday at the funeral
home. Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross
or the American Diabetes Association.
Mr. Neuman was born November 25, 1923 in Benton Harbor
to Michael & Harriet (Demske) Neumann. Harold proudly
served his country during WWII in the US Army Air Corp.
He was a German POW in Austria and received the Purple
Heart. On July 21, 1945 he married the former Clara Kaatz in
St. Joseph. Mr. Neuman was employed for 32 years by Allied
Signal in St. Joseph, retiring in 1984 as Director of
Manufacturing Services. He was an avid fisherman &
nature lover. Harold was a member of Stalag XVII-B
Ex POW Association.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife Clara; a son Jim (Judy)
Neuman of Benton Harbor, 3 daughters-Judy (Bob) Hall of
Paw Paw, MI, Deb Pinkston of Perrysburg, OH, Marianne
(Rocky) Genovese of SJ; 6 grandchildren-Laurie Koch, Amie
Hall, Abby Pinkston, Mitch Pinkston, Dan Pinkston, & Mia
Genovese; 3 great-grandchildren-Kaleigh Koch, Korey Koch,
& Sam Williamson; and a brother-John (Bonnie) Neumann of
SJ. He was preceded in death by his parents & two
brothers-Bernard & George Neuman.
Mr. Neuman was loved and respected by many and he will be
deeply missed.
