I was saddened to learn of Jim's passing. Condolences to the family.
I have known Jim since back in the Fairplain Soccer/AYSO days. I often saw him as he delivered to our building in Benton Harbor. I always looked forward to a laugh from his humorous Facebook posts.

Jim was married to my cousin, Carol. Living in California, we were never able to visit much with Jim and Carol, but they always made the effort to come out and visit us, or meet us in Vegas for a fun weekend. Jim was so much fun to be around and such a fun loving guy! One time while they were visiting us in Cali, he rented a convertible. We drove an hour to the wineries and once we arrived at our destination, our hair was in knots! He got the biggest kick out of that convertible.
When we first met Jim, we knew right away that he fit in with the family perfectly. He was so easy to talk to. He listened, he cared, he encouraged and he was always supportive. There was never any question that Jim’s family was first in his life, and he impressed those values onto his own children. I’ve heard it said that the measure of a man’s life is characterized by the quality of the relationship that he has had, and that he has brought to the world more than he has taken from it. If that is true, then Jim has stood among the tallest of men.
We thank for your service, in both the Air Force as a firefighting volunteer, a true testament of his love for life and country.
We will never forget you, Jim, and all your blonde jokes!
Our deepest sympathy to all of Jim’s family. Love, John and Lori Mattingly.

I am so saddened by Jim's passing! We went to school together. I remember him always joking and laughing. He was tall and I was very short and each time he would see me in the hallway he would put his hands on both sides of my face, lift me up off of the ground, shake me and say "RUP,RUP,RUP" (my last name was Ruppel) Twice he caught me seeing him in the hall turning in the other direction but he could not resist to catch up with me to lift me up off the ground. I hope my fond memory of him lifts your spirits.

To Jim, a brother firefighter. We came together to train, practice and fight fires & disasters for our families and our community. We formed bond's with each other and our families. We became a team of brothers to ALWAYS have each other's back, not just at a call but anytime a brother was in need. The bell now rings...the response is 10-7... now out of service. Rest easy now brother, you answered the call and honored the code...for all of us.

Jim was my brother-in-law for 28 years. He was at every family gathering and he and Carol had many gatherings at their house. Jim never had anything bad to say, always had a smile. They took me and my 3 kids in when I got divorced and needed a temporary place to stay. You always felt welcome in his home. We have gone on many vacations together. Can't imagine our family without him. I will always remember his saying with a big smile " How ya doin?"

I am sadden to hear of Jim's passing. I remember as a young lady babysitting for his children. And Jim would sing the song " Kung Fu Fighting" every time he saw me. I know he will be missed greatly. My deepest sympathies to his Family.
