Leon Steinmiller

Leon F. Steinmiller, 85, of South Haven, passed away on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at South Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Community. He was born on April 14, 1927 to Louis and Margaret (Zechlin) Steinmiller in Downers Grove, Illinois. Leon served his country in World War II in the Navy. Leon married Mamie Wagner on May 19, 1951. Leon worked as the maintenance supervisor for South Haven Public Schools for 34 years until his retirement in 1986. Leon was an avid fisherman, hunter, and loved to travel. He was active in the Steelheaders, River Bend Boat Club, South Haven Yacht Club, VFW, American Legion, Moose Lodge, and Elks Club.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Leon is survived by his wife – Mae Steinmiller; His children – David (Shelley) Steinmiller of Portage; Nancy (Keith) Nienhuis of South Haven; and Carol (Tony) Stricklin of South Haven; and one sister – Marlene Kiefer of Sparta. Seven grandchildren – Lucas (Megan) Nienhuis, Janelle Nienhuis, Sarah (David) Shephard, Heather (Daniel) Lotz, Trevor Stricklin, Travis Stricklin, and Kelli Stricklin. And three great grandchildren – Ty Nienhuis, Grey Nienhuis, and Jackson Lotz.
Visitation will take place on Monday, September 10 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 11 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Rev. Robert Linstrom officiating. Leon will be laid to rest at North Shore Memory Gardens in Hagar Shores.
