Edith Virginia "Ginnie"'s Obituary
Edith Virginia "Ginnie" McGuire, 96, of South Haven died in her sleep Friday, November 18, 2011 at River Ridge Retirement Village. Ginnie was born October 17, 1915 in Muskegon Heights, Michigan to Clark and Clara Mixer. She graduated from Muskegon Heights High School in 1933. She married Don McGuire in 1941 and moved to South Haven where she resided until her death. Together they raised 4 children.
Family and friends were her priority. Her home was always open with the coffee ready. She felt blessed to live by Lake Michigan and share the views, especially the sunsets.
Ginnie worked for the City of South Haven for 20 years retiring at the age of 70. She was an avid bridge player both duplicate and bridge clubs. She was always active, participating for many years in the senior swimming program at the H.S. pool, the exercise program at the Warren Center, and traveling both locally and abroad with friends and family.
She is survived by her sons: Donald Mixer (Sandy) McGuire of Burbank, California and Stephen (Jacki) McGuire of Bozeman, Montana; her daughters: Patricia (John) Hambly of Walnut Creek, California and Elizabeth (Earl) Akehurst of South Haven, Michigan; two brothers: Dan Mixer of Ferrysburg, Michigan, and Jack (Doris) Mixer of Norton Shores, Michigan; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, in 1981; her sister, Lois Johnson Holmstrom; and brother, Robert A. Mixer.
Ginnie's family would like to send a special thank you to the River Ridge Retirement Village for their outstanding care.
The memorial service with be at 1 P.M. on Friday November 25, 2011 at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, 410 Erie Street, South Haven, Michigan with Fr. Michael Ryan officiating. Internment will take place immediately following the service at the church memorial garden.
Memorial contributions can be made in her name to Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, River Ridge Retirement Village, South Haven’s Hospice at Home, or an organization of your choice.
