George Page Chapman

George Page's Obituary

George Page Chapman, 82, of South Haven died Tuesday, October 5 at Meadow Woods Nursing Home in Bloomingdale.

He was born July 30, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois to George and Esther (Waller) Chapman. George served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. George married Donna Cunningham. After her death he married Betty (Fennell on January 11, 1992 at the First Congregational Church. George worked as an accountant at Hammond Organ, Controller for Everett Piano Company and retired as Finance Director for the City of South Haven. George was an avid golfer and enjoyed trivia. He was on the founding board for the Lake Michigan Maritime Museum. George also enjoyed model ship building and stamp collecting.

He is preceded in death along with his parents by his wife – Donna Chapman who died in 1986. His sister – Victoria Ernst also precedes him.

He is survived by his wife - Betty Chapman of South Haven, Michigan. Four sons – Richard (Judy) Chapman of South Haven, Michigan, Jeffrey (Linda) Chapman of Kearney, Missouri, John (Carol) Chapman of Richland, Michigan and Stephen A. (Anne) Chapman of Belmont, Michigan. One daughter – Kathleen (Ed) Knapp of St. Joseph, Michigan. Four step-children – Rick (Connie) Fennell, Ty Fennell both of South Haven, Michigan, Doug Fennell of Sand Lake, Michigan and Vance (Shannon) Fennell of Clarksville, Michigan. Nine grandchildren – Jill & Todd Chapman, Mike & Michelle Knapp, Tom & Kristen Chapman, Carly Chapman and Ryan & Andrea Chapman. Five step-grandchildren. Two Step-great grandchildren. One sister – Joyce Sutor of Hickory Hills, Illinois also survives.

Visitation will be Friday, October 8 from 6 – 8 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home, South Haven, Michigan. Funeral services will be Saturday at St. Basil Catholic Church at 11:00 A.M. with Rev, Father Robert Flickinger officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Basil Educational Endowment Fund or the Michigan Maritime Museum.
