Jo Ann's Obituary
Jo Ann (Peck) Bumpus, 70, of Gobles, formerly of South Haven, passed away Monday, March 22 at Lakeview Hospital in Paw Paw.
She was born March 11, 1940 in South Haven, Michigan the daughter of James J. and Velva (Russell) Peck. Jo Ann was a graduate of South Haven High School and had resided previously in South Haven. She married Carl Bumpus in 1980. Jo and Carl traveled with the U.S. Air Force for many years and had lived in the Philippines for several years prior to his retirement. They then settled in Gobles, Michigan in 1989. Jo had worked at the hardware store in Paw Paw and at Healy’s Hardware in Gobles over the years. She enjoyed watching her soaps and going to casinos including their annual trips to Las Vegas. Her greatest love was that of her great grand-daughter, 10-month old, Kylee.
She is preceded in death by her father of El Paso, Texas in 1983 and her mother, Velva Peck of South Haven in 1996, her second husband, Donald Thorpe in 1970, husband Carl who died in October 2008 and her very special uncle, Albert Peck also in 2008 of Grand Rapids.
She is survived by her two children, Rhonda (Hill) Fiorillo of Garden City, Michigan and Mark (Chris) Hill of South Haven, step daughters, Maren Schmitt of Arizona and Christel Codling of New Hampshire, her sister, Dorothy (Peck) Cutshaw of South haven and half-sister, Donna (George) Gibson of El Paso, Texas and Kay (Jeff) Doss of San Antonio, Texas, grand-daughter, Jamie (Joe) Cousins of Paw Paw, great grand-daughter, Kylee Cousins, nephew, John B. Malbone of Ann Arbor, Michigan and great nephew and niece, John Lee and Natalie Malbone also of Ann Arbor. Plus very special friends, Fred and Kim Grays of Gobles.
