Robert's Obituary
Robert Harold Whitten Jr., 74, of South Haven died Thursday, April 2 at home.
Robert was born June 21, 1934 in Maywood, Illinois to Robert Harold and Virginia (Homan) Whitten. Robert attended Miami of Ohio and graduated from Tri State in Angola, Indiana with a Bachelors of Science Degree and Civil Engineering. Robert worked for the state of New York Highway Department for 2 years, he then worked for Illinois Highway Department until 1968. Robert then worked for Kaplan Civil Engineering then started his own Civil Engineering business until 1979 when he bought the South Haven Country Club which he ran for the past 31 years. Robert married Nancy Peters on June 17, 1961.
He is preceded in death along with his parents, by his son – Robert Harold Whitten III who died in 2007. His brother – Raymond Phillip Whitten also precedes him.
He is survived by his wife – Nancy Whitten of South Haven, Michigan. One son – Thomas (Clare) Whitten of Evansville, Wisconsin. Three grandchildren – Rebecca, Max and Lane Whitten. One sister – Donna Lee Simmons of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas also survives.
Visitation will be from 5:30 – 7:30 on Monday, April 6 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Memorial services will be Tuesday at 2:00 P.M. at the First Congregational Church UCC with Rev. Jeffrey S. Dick officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to Trine University Golf Management Program in Angola, Indiana.
