Ray "Bob"'s Obituary
Ray “Bob” McKinney Jr., 76, of South Haven died Sunday, September 21 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.
He was born October 25, 1931 in Paducah, Kentucky to Ray and Polly (Lee) McKinney Sr. Ray married Dorothy “Boots” York on October 14, 1950 in Detroit, Michigan. He served his country in the National Guard, Detroit Medical Unit. Ray worked for Ford Motor Company for 41 years retiring in 1991. Ray was the past Exalter Ruler for the Elks Lodge #2292 in Warren, Michigan. Ray enjoyed the CB radio, Trader Ray was his handle. Ray also enjoyed tools and gadgets, motorcycles, woodworking especially making shadow men. Ray was a member of the Saugatuck United Methodist Church.
He is preceded in death along with his parents by his sons – Roger McKinney who died in 1994 and Kevin McKinney in 1956.
He is survived by his wife – Dorothy “Boots” McKinney of South Haven, Michigan. Two sons – Gary (Rose) McKinney of Fraser, Michigan and Gregory (Martha) McKinney of Gaffney, South Carolina. One daughter – Sherry (Rick) Vorel of Pier Cove, Michigan. 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and one on the way. Two sisters – Delores White of Bradenton, Florida and Lucy (Vernon) York of Kingman, Arizona. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 23 from 10:00 A.M. – 8:00 P.M. at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. at the Saugatuck United Methodist Church with Pastor Letisha Bowman officiating. Visiting will take place prior to the service from 10 AM to 11 AM at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Saugatuck United Methodist Church – Building Fund.
