Robert Edwin's Obituary
Robert Edwin McClendon, 81, of South Haven, Michigan died Friday February 9, 2007 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Bob was born May 7, 1925 in Atkison, Kansas to Addison and Vurnie (Norton) McClendon. He graduated from high school in Pampa, Texas and continued his education at the University of California Berkley where he received his Bachelors degree. During WWII he served in the Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Boxer. On July 28, 1946 he married Joann Breech in Portales, NM. Bob was founder and chaiman of the Board of Do-It Corporation in South Haven. He was a memberof the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Bob was involved in numerous civic organizations in South Haven, including South Haven City Council, Planning Commission, Harbor Commission and the Industrial Foundation.
He is preceded in death along with his parents by a son Robert Craig McClendon in 1984 and a sister Leona Turner.
He is survived by his wife Joann McClendon of South Haven, Michigan, one son Mark (Peggy) McClendon of South Haven, Michigan and one daughter Holly (Vearl) Beck of Vicksburg, MS. Four grandchildren-Adele Beck of England, Lois (Steve) Ewing of Provo, Utah, Meghan (Scotty) Ellis of Covert, Michigan, and Daniel McClendon of South Haven, Michigan. One great granddaughter Harley Ellis. One brother Bill (Juanita) McClendon of Amarillo, Texas also survives.
Visitation will be from 5:30 – 7:30 P.M. at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home on Monday, February 12, 2007. Burial will take place in Portales New Mexico. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to South Haven Area Hospice.
