Herbert's Obituary

Herbert D. McKamey, age 67, went to his Lord suddenly Sunday, August 13 while doing what he enjoyed; talking, laughing and spending time with his friends. He was well known throughout the community for the friendly social person that he was. He was a powerful life and will be sadly missed by many.

Herbert was born on February 19, 1939 born in Bald Knob, Arkansas to Murrel and Grace (Bruce) McKamey. He came to South Haven and made his life here. He married Sue Ann New on May 11, 1960. Herb owned and operated Quality Auto Repair from 1967 to 1979. Herb worked at Consumers Energy for 17 years at the Palisades Nuclear Plant until his retirement in 2003. Herb served in the Michigan National Guard and the Army Reserve for 20 years. He was a member of the Michigan Flywheelers and also was a collector of tractors especially John Deere, Farmall and Ford. Herb loved to fish for perch and salmon on Lake Michigan in his boat Latitude Adjustment.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sue Ann (New) McKamey. Three great sons of whom he was very proud, Kevin (Julie) McKamey of Ballwin, Missouri, Kyle (Sarah) McKamey of South Haven, Michigan and Kelly McKamey of Granger, Indiana. Seven special grandchildren with whom he shared his grandfatherly wisdom with. Mitchell, Keenan, Torey, Amber, Brenden, Kameren and Lennon. Two brothers whom were very dear to his heart Edgar (Bonnie) McKamey of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas and Roger (Joyce) McKamey of Elmira, New York. Many nieces and nephews whom will always share fond memories of “Uncle Herb”

He was preceded in death by his parents Murrel and Grace McKamey and one sister Mary Pratt.

Visitation will be on Thursday, August 17 at 6 to 8 P.M. at Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday, August 18 at 11 A.M at the funeral home with Pastor Jerry Koller officiating. Burial will take place at Lakeview Cemetery, South Haven. Memorials contributions can be made to Michigan Flywheelers or St. Judes Childrens Hospital.
