John, Reuben, Janet and all the grandchildren.
My prayers and thoughts are with you in the loss of your father. I have known your family for many years. Your father and grandfather was a kind man. I spoke to him many times at McDonalds. It's been many years since I worked with Kathy, but John, you and your family are wonderful people. My sympathy to all of you.

Mr. Yelding was a huge example of good, remembering all of the positive influences he had for the youth of South Haven and his direct interaction with his sons. I thought highly of his leadership and effort on the school and students behalf.

John and Reuben...no one needs to tell you how admired and respected your father was by so many of us fortunate enough to have crossed paths, or walked some of the same paths. You two are reflections. Growing-up I may have seen your dad more often than many, on the job next door, . Just the sweetest, most thoughtful, caring guy. Over the years I have thought often of the relationship that most resembled you guys and your dad. Dr. Jeter and Derek, who I got to know while covering the family. John, as a classmate of yours, and Reuben as a friend through basketball, while I don't see you often you have always been among my favorite human beings. You were so close to him he's your conscience and because of that he really will always be with you. God bless you and your families.

Rueben, Janet Tracy, Heather and Ryan your Dad and Granddad was a great guy and a wonderful Grandpa not only to his own grandchildren but to so many other kids in the community.
I recall all the time Willie was over there and the great time he would have. Even in high school Ryan and Willie would go over to his house for a free lunch. Plus all the time he would give Willie a ride home when he would miss the bus. I hadn't seen him in a long time and then at one of my Grand daughter ball games he was there and it was just like we had never missed a day of seeing each other. He is at peace but will be greatly missed by all who had the privledge of knowing him. Hugs to the family

To the Yielding Family:
I met your father and became very friendly with him at South Haven's Library. He was a true "town elder" or a "griot" of African-American History of South Haven and most certainly of WWII. He shared with me that he sometimes still dreamt of his war years, yet never mentioned the three war medals he earned.
May God bless his soul and the hearts of his descendants.
Best,

On behalf of our mother Carolye R. Hawkins we send you our deepest condolences and prayers. Your mom is "now" not alone! Missing the many years we've shared as friends. Sorry I could not be there as I'm in Arizona for the winter, but again my prayers are with the family for strength and peace. Love Carolye
