Eleanor's Obituary


Eleanor May Tomsa, 85, of South Haven, died Thursday, January 31, 2013 at South Haven Medical Systems. She was born May 5, 1927 to Amos and Anna (Swetay) Shugars in Bloomingdale, Michigan. Eleanor married her loving husband, late Earl Tomsa, on October 27, 1945 at the Salem Lutheran Church of Coloma. She worked at the Hales Department Store in South Haven for thirty years. She was a 4-H leader for many years and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, working on puzzels, and playing Bunco. Eleanor loved to cook and was known for her German Potato Salad and German Chocolate Cake. Eleanor was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was an active member of the Ladies Aid.
She is preceded in death along with her parents by her husband – Earl Tomsa; brother – Amos Al Shugars; sister – Betty Louise; great grandson – Kaleb Berndt.
Eleanor is survived by her children – Kenneth Tomsa, Earlene (Eugene) Skinner, Sharon Bloodworth, and Pam (Charles) Berndt of South Haven and Randy (Eve) Tomsa of Deale, Maryland. 13 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren also survive.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 7, 2013 from 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home of South Haven. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 8, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Haven with Pastor Clint Rogas officiating. Eleanor will be laid to rest at North Shore Memory Gardens in Hagar Shores. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the St. Paul Lutheran School in Eleanor’s memory.
