Richard's Obituary

 

Richard Donald Higgins, of South Haven, died Friday March 29, 2013 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.  Richard was a patriotic man, serving in World War II and the Korean War on the USS Wichita.  Richard was an agent for CSX railroad for 45 years.  He provided home security services around the South Haven community for the past several years and enjoyed playing chess and writing stories.

He is preceded in death by his mother Pauline (nee Hyndman) Lungren and her husband Chuck, son Mark S. Higgins, and brother Byron L. Higgins.

Richard is survived by his wife, Jitka Higgins, daughters Judith (Bill) Tyler of South Carolina, Nancy (Jim) Minor of Illinois, and Anna Higgins of Montana,  brother Melvin (Rebecca) Higgins of France, grandchildren Timothy (Lisa) Backstrom, Matthew (Jennifer) Tyler, Brandon (Kelly) Tyler,  and Mark E. Higgins of South Carolina, great grandchild Chase Higgins of South Carolina, and Richard’s extended family.

Visitation will be Tuesday, April 2, 2013 from 12 PM to 1 PM at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home of South Haven.  Funeral services will follow visitation at 1:00 PM with Rev. Father Robert Flickinger officiating at the funeral home.
