Lois's Obituary
Lois Jean Knopf Davis, 82 of South Haven died Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at South Haven Health Systems. She was born August 26, 1930 in Kalamazoo to Roy and Mabel (Knapp) Knopf. She grew up in a series of county farms her father managed. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1948.
Upon graduation, she enrolled at Albion College and graduated in 1952 with her teaching certificate. She taught classes at Owosso, Covert and retired from South Haven Public Schools in 1986. She operated the Gift Gallery at Rexall Drug Store until 1991.
On June 18, 1955 she married James Davis. During the next 57 years, they had 4 sons: Eric, Randall, Timothy and Brian.
She raised her family in the First United Methodist Church. She was involved in their youth activities, a Cub Scout Den Mother. She taught Home-Economics for many years and used her family to “try” the new recipe before taking them to school. Although some were good, many didn’t pass the 4 boy taste test.
She always liked having family gatherings. Although as the family grew in size and spread out in distance, they were always close in her heart.
Although cancer was not what ultimately claimed her, she bravely battled breast cancer that was diagnosed first in 1991. She was a strong supporter of American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.
She now rests with Jesus after being released from her broken/crippled body. She is surely catching up with friends and relatives that have passed before her. She was preceded in death by both of her parents and her beloved grandson Ian (aka SpongeBob).
She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years James, their 4 sons Eric (South Haven), Randall (South Haven), Timothy(Louise) of Austin, MN and Brian(South Haven). Her grandchildren Janine (Zach) Staples, Sean (Kim) Davis, Steffin Davis, Laura (Nathan) Dahlke, Elizabeth Davis and Jeffrey Davis, and great granddaughter Trinity Grace Davis. Also surviving is her brother Stanley (Rita) Knopf of Marlette, MI and sister Janet (James) Lincoln of Okemos, MI. She would also like to acknowledge the gifts of time given by Rebecca Clary and Pam Phillips.
Visitation will be Saturday April 13, 2013 from 2-4PM and 6-8PM at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home of South Haven.
