Marion's Obituary
Marion Louise Bergstrom, 86, of South Haven, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2013, after a brief stay at the Hospice House of Holland. She was born March 12, 1927, to Rex and Hazel (Goodrich) Empson in South Haven. She was the oldest of five daughters. Marion worked at several factories, at Murphy’s Dime Store, and had a small family farm with her husband. She married Charles Andrew Bergstrom on February 3, l944 in LaPorte, Indiana. They were married for 66 years. As a young adult, she attended the Packard Church and then joined the Maple Grove Bible Church. She was an active member there and taught Sunday School. Later in life, she attended the Casco United Methodist Church. Marion loved her gardens, raising both flowers and vegetables. Home canning, cooking and baking were not only hobbies, but a way of life for her. She made delicious “goodies” such as cakes, pies, brownies and cookies.
She is preceded in death along with her parents by her husband, Charles Bergstrom Sr.; son, Charles Bergstrom Jr.; grandson, Jack Wilkinson; and two sisters, Lucille Alfieri and Edna Alfieri.
Marion is survived by her daughter, Sandra (William) Warren of South Haven; two sisters, Thelma Leach of Douglas and Beatrice Olson of Bangor. Four grandchildren (Anthea Wilkinson, James Wilkinson, Amy Barnes, and Solina Warren), several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren also survive. Many other nieces and nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law will mourn her passing.
Visitation will be Monday, August 26, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Casco United Methodist Church with a luncheon following. Rev. David Meister will officiate. Marion will be laid to rest at the North Shore Memory Gardens in Hagar Shores. Contributions in Marion’s memory may be made to the Al-Van Humane Society, the Casco United Methodist Church, Hospice House of Holland Tulip Tree Fund, or the charity of your choice.
