Ila Mitchell

Ila Mae Mitchell, 86, of South Haven, died Saturday, September 28, 2013 at the South Haven Health System. She was born September 26, 1927 to Clinton and Frances (Benidict) Fleming in South Haven. Ila graduated from South Haven High School in 1945 and then attended Western Michigan University and obtained her Secretarial Certificate in 1947. She, along with her husband, owned and operated the Milford Herald News in Milford, Illinois. Most recently, Ila prepared tax returns at the Bangor H&R Block office. She married Lewis Mitchell on August 1, 1947 at Casco EUB Church. Ila was a member of Casco United Methodist Church. She loved to sing in the church choir.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Ila is survived by her husband of 66 years – Lewis Mitchell; two sons – Robert (Beverly) Mitchell of Utah and William (Kimberly) Mitchell of Havana, Illinois; daughter – Michelle (Barney) Cargile of Northport, Alabama; three brothers – Lynn (Marian) Fleming of South Haven, Marvin (Florence) Fleming of Dublin, Ohio, and Robert (Lucille) Fleming of Hamilton; sister – Kathy DeMuro of Scottsdale, Arizona. Eleven grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren also survive.

Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Casco United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at the Casco United Methodist Church with Reverends George Fleming and David Meister officiating. Ila will be laid to rest in McDowell Cemetery in Casco Township. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Ila’s memory to Gideons International, P.O.
