Ed Jakubs

Edwin Jakubs 81, a gentle man with a beautiful, smile passed away unexpectedly at his home on December 25, 2013.

All who knew Ed admired his love for his family, his passion for his garden and orchard, and generosity in sharing of its rich bounty.

Ed was born in 1932 to John and Stephanie (Romanski) Jakubs in Covert, Michigan. After graduating from South Haven High School in 1950, Ed proudly served his country as an airman in Germany and France. He had the privilege of working special duty as a photographer assigned to accompany General Dwight E. Eisenhower for his last inspection of the troops.

Ed was a talented and innovative field technician for Leco Corporation providing service covering the US and the globe for over 40 years.

Edwin was preceded in death by his parents – John and Stephanie (Romanski) Jakubs; sisters – Wanda McClain and Adeline Fate; grandson – David Price.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Edith (Strebeck) Jakubs; daughter – Janet (Karl) Price of Baroda, MI; three sons – John (Paula) Jakubs of Berrien Springs, MI, Jim (Missy) Jakubs and Jerry (Cindy) Jakubs both of Baroda, MI; Nine grandchildren – Mary Price, Michael Price, Debra Lollar, Chuck Jakubs, Rachel Jakubs, Ben Jakubs, Jillian Jakubs, Taylor Jakubs, and Steven Jakubs; two great grandchildren – Annalise and Cody Olson.

Visitation will be January 3, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home, 1076 S. Bailey Avenue, South Haven, Michigan. The funeral service will follow on Saturday, January 4 at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church, 429 Michigan Avenue, South Haven, MI with Reverend Devon Herrell officiating. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, South Haven, MI or the American Cancer Society.
