Richard Grandon Evans, Jr.

Richard Grandon Evans, 71, of South Haven, died on Friday, January 17, 2014 at his home under Hospice care. He was born January 3, 1943 to Richard and Irene (Knapp) Evans in Kalamazoo. Richard worked as an electric lineman for Consumers Energy before his retirement. He married Susan (Reese) Evans on December 23, 2002 at the Parchment United Methodist Church. Richard loved playing games like cribbage and softball. He loved being busy working outside. Richard enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is preceded in death by his father – Richard Evans, Sr.; his first wife – Mary Ellen Evans; grandson – T.J. Hendrix.

Richard is survived by his wife – Sue Evans of South Haven; children – Mark (Sue) Evans of Battle Creek, Scott (Gayle) Evans of Plainwell, Janette (Tim) Hendrix of South Haven, Paul Evans of Scotts, MI and Matt Truesdale of Providence, RI; mother – Irene (Knapp) Evans; sister – Schari Bartholomew of Schoolcraft. Eleven grandchildren and brother-in-law Robert (Shari) Reese of Everett, Washington also survive.

Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Monday, January 20, 2014 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home of South Haven. Funeral services will follow visitation at 12:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Richard’s memory to Hospice at Home or the West Michigan Cancer Center.
