Gladys's Obituary

 

Gladys Marie Winkel, 94, of South Haven, Michigan died Friday, January 24, 2014 at Allegan County Medical Facility. She was born September 8, 1919 to Nora and William Forry and was the oldest of four children. She married Gerhardt Winkel on February 26, 1938 in St. Joseph, MI. She farmed with her husband her entire life. Gladys loved her family and especially enjoyed cooking for them. She also enjoyed gardening and was an avid bridge player. Her kind smile and laugh were contagious. Gladys had a strong faith and was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in South Haven her entire life and enjoyed volunteering whenever needed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 65 years and two brothers, Lee and Leonard Forry. Survivors include: one sister, Wilma Forry of Shelby Township, MI; four sons – Gerhardt (Freda) Winkel Jr. of Dubuque, IA, Michael (Linda) Winkel and Marv (Rosemary) Winkel of South Haven, MI, and Mark Winkel of Bangor, MI; two daughters - Martha (Harold) Hamlin of South Haven, MI and Margaret (Pat) Doud of St. Joseph, MI; 19 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Haven followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM. There will be a light luncheon at St. Paul Lutheran School following the service. Pastors Stephen Daley and John Kenyon will officiate. Gladys will be laid to rest at Chambers Cemetery, Geneva Township.
