Samuel David Merriweather

Samuel David Merriweather, 63, of Covert, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 7, 2014. Sam was the eleventh child of twelve children. Sam was a hard worker in life. He built his junk yard and rental business from scratch. Sam was a Journeyman Iron Worker working out of Local 340 Battle Creek, Michigan. Sam received his welding certificate from Andrews University in 1974 and his building maintenance technical certificate in 1976 from Northwestern School District.

Sam had many other skills and talents to his credit. He was a skilled artist and a very knowledgeable collector of antiques and fine art. Anyone that met Sam did not soon forget him. He is preceded in death by two sons – Ebony and Samuel Merriweather; parents – Grandville and Elnora Merriweather; two brothers – Joseph and James Merriweather.

Sam leaves behind two daughters –Butta “Samoy” Merriweather of Kalamazoo and Ana Jean “Onviana” Whitelow of Atlanta, GA; two sons – Jason Merriweather of Nashville, TN and Vincent “Lloyd” Whitelow of New Orleans. Nine siblings – Julia Ampey of Gobles, Gertrude (James) Brown of Bangor, Grandville Merriweather of Kalamazoo, Minnie Merriweather of South Haven, Janice Merriweather Perry of Benton Harbor, Jeanette (Michael) Merriweather-Shane of Belleville, MI, Charles Merriweather of South Haven, Mable Merriweather Franklin of Ann Arbor, and George (Diane) Merriweather of Nicholson, GA. Thirteen grandchildren—Juwan,Calvin, Tavin, Dennis, Kevana, Nyra, Amari, Genisis, Samson, Miyah, Arya, Lloyd Jr., and Meya. Great grandson – Damani. A host of nieces and nephews also survive.

Wake will be held from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at the Gospel Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in Covert. Funeral services will follow the wake at 2:00 PM at the church.
