We encourage you to share your most beloved memories of Samuel here, so that the family and other loved ones can always see it. Share your favorite stories or comment on those shared by others.
My sincerest condolences to Sam's many siblings. Met Sam when I was a rookie cop with SHPD in 1976.
Had many (friendly) dealings with Sam, George, Charles, Grandville, Gertrude, Mabel and many other cousins, nieces and nephews of his extraordinarily LARGE family. But Sam was always my favorite!
Rest in peace, old friend.

I take this moment to acknowledge Sam's passing and pray that he is with God at this moment and at eternal peace. We grew up together and had encounters as youths at Monroe playground that developed into a friendship through High School.
Playing basketball and attending classes together were eventful times with Sam and George and Charles. I moved out of South Haven and lost touch with a lot of friends from the South Haven area. It only saddens me that a jolt like this stirs those memories and fond times. My prayers to the family and may Christ bring you all the blessings of acceptance at this sad time.

My prayers are with the Merriweather family. Sammy was the man when it came to what parts you needed for your car. My sons would refer to him as Uncle Sammy. He took what was meant for his bad and it turned out for his good. I never heard him complain. My prayers are with you Jason. May God comfort you during this time.

Sam, you were a great friend to nate, as well as the family. I really enjoyed it when nate would come back after "hanging out" with you, I would always ask, "what's Sam talking about"? You knew how Nate could talk, so our conversations would last a long time, just laughing at the things you and he talked about. Summers won't be the same without seeing you with Nate, or, cruising the beach in your corvette. Hanging out in our garage, or your truck, for an hour or more. Have a peacful journey, Nate and Nikki.

To the Merriweather Family,
I wanted to attend the funeral, but ran into bad weather in Lansing.
Sammie was family to me, and the best friend of my brother Ralph. I will always remember his deep voice, warm smile and easy going conversation. I saw him last - sitting in the back of my brother Ralph's church in Kalamazoo. He called me Sis' and I always thought of him as a big brother!
While I was deeply sadden to hear of his passing - I danced in joy to hear that he had given his life to Christ before going home. I know that I will see him again and I laughed to think how surprised Sugarman would be to greet Sammie there. Take comfort Merriweather family, in the hope of seeing him again in a renewed body that will never be destroyed again.
May God bless each of you during this difficult time of loss, surrounding and comforting each of you with His heavenly angels and Holy Spirit.
Yours in Christ,
Louretta & John Powell.
