Elizabeth's Obituary
Elizabeth “Bette” Slikkers, 92, of South Haven, passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at her home under Hospice care. She was born May 15, 1922 to Peter and Amy (Kuiper) Boer in Sheldon, Iowa. Bette worked as a book keeper for the City of South Haven and Shields & Decker in South Haven. Bette loved animals and served as treasurer for the Al Van Humane Society. She also served on the board at the Liberty Hyde Bailey Museum. Bette loved camping out doors and especially enjoyed fishing trips on Lake Michigan and in Canada. Bette was a member of the Hope Reformed Church in South Haven.
She is preceded in death along with her parents by her husband – Adrian G. Slikkers, Sr. and sister – Irene DeYoung.
Bette is survived by her son – Adrian (Gerrie) Slikkers, Jr.; two brothers – Ed (Bobbie) Boer and Cal (Karen) Boer both of Holland, MI; sister – Margaret Boer of Kalamazoo; and her beloved cat – Dutch.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at the Hope Reformed Church of South Haven. Funeral services will follow visitation at 11:00 AM at the church with Rev. Curry Pikkaart officiating. Contributions may be made in Bette’s memory to the Al Van Humane Society, 73303 8th Ave, South Haven, MI 49090. Bette will be laid to rest in Lakeview Cemetery in South Haven.
