To Mary's Family,
Mary and I worked together for years at Lincoln. She was my director for Head Start. Mary always talked about her parents, sisters, nieces and nephews. They meant so much to her. I know that Mary will be missed.

Since I've been a SHPS teacher since 1987, I remember Mary as an administrator for our district. She was always easy to talk to about different things. I enjoyed working with her. I'm sorry for your loss.

My Aunt Mary Lou was one of my favorite people. I remember so many great times visiting her and my Grandpa on the weekends. They would teach me about the plants in the garden and go for walks around the beautiful property they lived on. I remember spending the night and my aunt making delicious ham and egg scrambles in the morning. I loved that stuff! She was a great cook and such a giving woman. She would take each of her nieces and nephews out to a big birthday dinner and shopping for gifts every year for our birthday.
I also really loved how much she encouraged me to pursue my passion for art. She was an artist and painter herself and helped teach me a few things about color and subject matter in art. If it was not for her inspiring me to do this I may not be the man I am today living in Los Angeles living my dream as an artist today!
I love you Aunty! You will be missed very much, but I will always cherish the great times we had together through out the years! Your energy will continue on as you will always be a part of me.

I spent a fair amount of time in my youth around "Aunt" Mary Lou. I have clear memories like her helping me "earn" money for a class trip one year by coming over and helping her clean at the farm and keeping her company after her knee surgery. Helping her change her leg stockings as she sat in the rocker in the kitchen taught me empathy and an appreciation for help others can provide. It's amazing how the small stuff sticks in your mind.
She was so committed to spending time with her Dad, Grandpa Frank, and took great care of him which just shows her giving heart. So often my mom, sister, and I would go visit Frank and Mary at the house and later we would see Frank at the nursing home. Quite often Mary Lou was there sitting by her dad's side talking with him about when she was a little girl, working at the school, or letting him know what was happening back at the homestead.
She loved painting, flowers/plants, and buttons. And boy did she have collections built up of all of those things. Her journey was a long and steady one full of fun memories with family and friends.
May God Bless You!

Mary was a lovely person. She was an enjoyable member to share time with during our Western Michigan Button Club meetings. Being a very new member myself, I was just getting to know her. She sat beside me during the last meeting she attended. I was looking forward to getting to know her better. By reading the already expressed condolences, one can see how many lives she had such a positive influence. As a special education teacher myself having grown up on a farm and a collector of buttons, we had so much in common! She will be sadly missed.
