Gordon Nicholas

Gordon Nicholas, 91, of South Haven, Michigan, formerly of Lawrence, Michigan, passed away Friday, June 12, 2015 in the South Haven Health System. He was born July 31, 1923 to Floyd and Sarah (Young) Nicholas in Alexandra, North Dakota. Gordon graduated from Bangor High School in 1942. After graduating, he served his country in the Army during the Korean War.  He  married Martha Louise (Whitcomb) on March 3, 1950 in Lawrence, Michigan. Gordon worked in production scheduling for Auto Specialties in Hartford, Michigan, for 31 years before retiring in 1981. He was also a member of the Lawrence United Methodist Church.

Gordon is preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Robin Nicholas who died in 1959 and his siblings, Harold Nicholas, Donald Nicholas, Kenneth Nicholas and Dorothea Hayda.

He is survived by his wife - Louise Nicholas. His children - Thomas (Rosanne) Nicholas of Mattawan, Michigan, Sandy (John) Weiss of South Haven, Michigan. Granddaughter - Emily (Terry Jr.) Hatch. Great-grandson - Ian Hatch. Sister-in-law - Dorothy Nicholas of Cumming, Georgia. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

A visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. - 2:00 P.M. on Friday, June 19, 2015 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home followed by the funeral service at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Harold Filbrandt officiating. Gordon will be laid to rest in Lawrence Cemetery next to his daughter Robin. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the South Haven Save the Light Campaign at 355 Hubbard Street, South Haven, MI 49090.
