Daniel's Obituary
Daniel Raymond Simon, 55, of South Haven, passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at his home surrounded by family. He was born November 23, 1960 to Raymond and Florence (Soltys) Simon in Grand Rapids. Dan graduated from West Catholic High School in Grand Rapids in 1979. He then went on to graduate from Ferris State University in 1984 with a degree in pharmacy and later served as adjunct faculty. Dan owned and operated Value Drugs in South Haven as well as pharmacies in Hamilton, Plainwell, and Allegan for 30 years. He married Lisa Olewinski on October 26, 1990 at St. Alphonsus Church in Grand Rapids. He was an avid fan of the Detroit Lions and Red Wings as well as Michigan State University. He loved hunting. He was a member of the St. Basil Catholic Church and was a 4th degree, Past Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus. He also served on the St. Basil Catholic School Board, taught classes in CCD, confirmation, and baptism but what Dan was most proud of was his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Dan is survived by his wife of 25 years – Lisa Simon, three daughters – Stacy, Samantha, and Emily Simon, siblings – Bill (Karen) Simon of Grand Rapids, and Mary (Tom) Knechtel of Kalamazoo, sister-in-law – Laura (Bill) Russo of Grand Rapids, brother-in-law – Gregg (Rhonda) Olewinski of Las Vegas, Nevada, nieces and nephews – Doug Scott, Renee, Mary, Lyndsay Simon, Stephanie (Mike) Klepser, and Lisa and Amy Knechtel, Ryan, Matthew, Andrew, Kelly, and Jayme Russo, Brandy Grant, Britt Hayes, Olivia and Alexis Olewinski. He’ll be missed by countless close friends.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM with the Rosary at 7:30 PM on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home in South Haven. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 29, 2016 at the First Congregational Church with Rev. Father Robert Flickinger officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Dan’s memory to St. Basil Restore the Glory Campaign, 513 Monroe Boulevard, South Haven, Michigan 49090 or Hospice at Home, 05055 Blue Star Highway, South Haven, Michigan 49090.
