Janet Reid

Janet Knox Reid, 92, of South Haven, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, June 14, 2016 from her home in South Haven. The only daughter of Charles and Mabel Knox, she was born October 2, 1923 in a house at the corner of Pearl and Huron Streets in South Haven. She happily lived her entire life in South Haven. Janet graduated from South Haven High School in 1941 and regularly attended class reunions along with the ‘41ers ladies monthly lunch. Janet was married to Howard Reid on November 3, 1946.

Janet’s working life included the Dairy Bar, Appleyards Photography, Overton’s making gun stocks during WWII, Tragna’s Grocery Store, and Dr. Verne Ticknor’s office for 19 years before retiring. Even after retirement, Janet found work at the Old Harbor Inn, American Twisting, and for the City of South Haven as the “head bean counter” with the beach parking department. She was a long time member of the Bethel Baptist Church in South Haven.

Janet entertained for 60 plus years at her home for her grandchildren and great grandchildren for beach retreats and 4th of July fireworks.

She is preceded in death along with her parents by her husband – Howard Reid who passed in 1993 and brother – Charles Knox.

Janet is survived by her son Ronald Reid of Kalamazoo, daughter – Vicki Reid (Dennis) Olson of South Haven, five grandchildren – Andy (Kelly) Mielke of South Haven, Todd (Holly) Mielke of Hartford, Heidi (Todd) Covey of Holland, Kasey (Zach) Ritsema and Misty (Ben) Reid both of Portage, and seven great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Friday, June 17, 2016 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home in South Haven. Funeral services will follow visitation at 1:00 PM with Pastor Dale Byers and Rev. Jim Daniels officiating at the funeral home. Janet will be laid to rest at Lakeview Cemetery in South Haven, Michigan.
