Bernadine Struble

Bernadine Struble, 100, of South Haven, departed this earth for her heavenly home on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at the South Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Community. She was born March 19, 1916 to Henry and Lydia (Dimmig) Stamm in Peoria, Illinois. Bernadine married Wilson Struble on March 19, 1938 at the First Church of God in South Haven and shared 62 years of marriage before his passing in 2000. Bernadine worked as a forelady at the Michigan Fruit Canners in South Haven and ran Wilson’s Bait Shop on 16th Avenue for many years alongside her husband; her faith, family, and friends were always at the forefront of her life.  She enjoyed sculpting her ceramic treasures and sewing quilts, sharing her beautiful creations with family and friends. Bernadine loved spending time tending to her flower gardens and watching cardinals return every spring. She was a long time member of the First Church of God in South Haven.

She was preceded in death along with her parents and husband by her siblings – Fred, Howard, Joe, Henry and Ernest Stamm, and Verna Beiers.

Bernadine is survived by her son, who was her pride and joy – Ron (Cherie) Struble of Findlay, Ohio, grandchildren – Roger Armstrong, Brent and Michael Struble, Kristi (Tim) Kigar, and Bethany (Sean) Egler, five great grandchildren – Alycia, Alexis, Tyler, Jade, and Elohna, and her dear friends and devoted caretakers – Mildred and Merlin Woods, and their extended family, whom Bernadine loved like her own. The family would also like to thank the staff at the South Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Community for the care they provided during Bernadine’s extended stay.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at the Lakeview Cemetery in South Haven with Pastor Steve Starks officiating. Bernadine will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Wilson. Contributions may be made in Bernadine’s memory to the First Church of God in South Haven, 567 Broadway, South Haven, Michigan 49090.
