Sherman Anderson Fuqua, Jr.

Sherman “Man” Anderson Fuqua, Jr., 55, of South Haven, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2017 at his home. He was born January 14, 1962 to Sherman and Frances (Ford) Fuqua in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. Sherman was raised in the Detroit area and went on to play football for and graduate from Wayne State University in 1985 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications. Sherman was an avid sports enthusiast and especially loved cheering on his favorite team, the Pittsburg Steelers. Sherman worked for the State of Michigan Department of Human Services for over 15 years, but his love of helping others did not end in the office. He was an active ministry volunteer with the Christian Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses and enjoyed sharing with others his hope for the future that God will “wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more” (Rev. 21:4).

Sherman is preceded in death by his parents, Sherman Fuqua Sr. and Frances Fuqua. Sherman is survived by his devoted wife, Cynthia Fuqua of South Haven; loving children – Tequila Nelson of Detroit, Keland (Tiffany) Hill of Washington, J’Nai (Corey) Fuqua-Clair of Kalamazoo, Kia Fuqua of Warsaw, Poland, Marcus (Alayna) Christie of Lexington, Kentucky, and Alexandria (Christian) Polk-Lewis of Grand Rapids; four siblings – Eltwan “Twanny” Fuqua of Bemidji, Minnesota, Danell Holt, Charisse Holt-Hamilton, and Yancey Fuqua all of Brownstown, MI; and three adoring grandchildren – Sh’rtina Nelson, Malaki Christie, and Aiyahnna Polk-Lewis.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home in South Haven. Memorial services will follow at 2 PM at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home, 1076 S Bailey Ave, South Haven, MI 49090. Contributions may be made in Sherman’s memory to the Kingdom Hall, 07225 Blue Star Hwy, South Haven, MI 49090.
