Donald's Obituary

Donald Gerald Holzhueter, 84, of South Haven, passed away Friday, April 7, 2017 at the Metro Health Hospital in Wyoming, Michigan. He was born August 18, 1932 to Otto and Lydia (Lemke) Holzhueter in Watertown, Wisconsin. He married Suzanne Gaertner on July 27, 1958 and shared 58 years of marriage.  Don was a 1955 graduate of Dr. Martin Luther College.  He taught school at Redeemer Lutheran in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and St. John Lutheran in Westland, Michigan.  Don then moved to South Haven and taught at the St. Paul Lutheran School for 25 years.  He taught a total of 42 years before his retirement.  Following retirement Don taught one year in the Czech Republic.  He was also a long time organist and choir director.  He was a member of the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Haven.  Don loved to travel with family and close friends.  He also enjoyed reading, gardening and watching sports on television,. especially the Green Bay Packers.

He is preceded in death along with his parents by two infant children – Mark and Kate Holzhueter, brothers – Elmer, Clarence, Irvin, Lester, Melvin, Carlton and Leonard, and two sisters – Hilda Fischer and Lorraine Kiesow.

Don is survived by his wife – Suzanne Holzhueter of South Haven, children – Kurt (Donna) Holzhueter of Lowell, Michigan and Karl (Lori) Holzhueter of Jenison, Michigan.  Two grand children – Kallie and Katie Holzhueter.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 12, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Paul  Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Haven.  Memorial services will follow at 11:00 AM at the church with Pastor Stephen Daley officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Paul 40 Weeks of Focus – Matching Fund.  Don will be laid to rest at Highland Memorial Park in Appleton, Wisconsin.
