Ronald's Obituary

 

 Ronald Lee Dannenberg, 77, of South Haven, went to be with his Lord on April 11, 2017 at home. He was born September 2, 1939 to Harley and Winnie (Timmer) Dannenberg in Holland, Michigan.  Ron graduated from Zeeland High School in 1958 and later went to Davenport College.  After high school Ron enlisted in the army serving from 1958-1965.  He married Mary (Van Noord) on May 26, 1961 at Vriesland Reformed Church in Vriesland , Michigan.  Ron was the Personnel Director of Holland Die Casting and Gulf and Western in Grand Rapids before moving to South Haven in 1971.  He then became a co-owner of McKimmies where he ran the Shoe Store until he bought out McKimmies Shoes in 1983 and renamed the business Dannenberg’s Shoes which it remained until 1990.  Ron then began working for Golden Brown Bakery as their sales manager.  He worked for them for 26 years. Ron loved meeting people and talking with them.  His family meant everything to him.  He enjoyed all the sporting events and concerts his children and later his grandchildren were involved in.   He  also enjoyed coaching little league baseball when his children were younger.  He liked doing yard work and being outside.  He also enjoyed golfing and fishing and spending his winters in Florida.  Ron served as the chairman of the Blueberry Festival in 1974 and was an active member of South Haven Chamber of Commerce.  He was also an active member of Hope Reformed Church and served on the Board numerous times.  Ron also served on the Hospice Board for 6 years.  

Ron was preceded in death by his parents.

Ronald is survived by his wife Mary, children Mike (Paula) Dannenberg of Zeeland, Nancy (Charlie) Kelley, Karen (Tony) Brush, and Paul (Amy) Dannenberg all of South Haven, his brother Allen (Barb) Dannenberg of Zeeland and sister Norma (Bill) Bruinsma of Holland, Grandchildren – Taylor and Abigail Dannenberg, Travis & Shannon Kelley, Ryan, Chris and Sarah Brush and Holli and Brady Dannenberg.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, April 21, 2017 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home.  A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, April 22, 2017 with Pastor Steve Smallegan officiating at Hope Reformed Church on Monroe Blvd in South Haven, MI.   Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Reformed Church Memorial Fund or Hospice at Home.
