I had the pleasure of working with Karen at Maple Grove for about a year when I was a janitor. She made everyone she met feel like her best friend, As "commander" of the kitchen, she was a lunch lady that would be the first to scold youngsters if they didn't follow the rules, but even quicker to enfold them in a hug. She had no problem donning a costume or decorating her cafeteria to make meals even more memorable for the kids. Miss Karen was loved by her students and they felt equally loved back. School meals will never be the same without her.
