Cecil's Obituary
Cecil Arthur Hunt, 92, of South Haven, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2019 at his home under Hospice care. He was born June 1, 1927 to Leo and Ethel (Quick) Hunt in South Haven. Cecil was drafted into the United States Army after beginning his 12th grade in high school. He honorably served his country during World War II. More than 50 years later, Legislation was passed that allowed Cecil to obtain his high school diploma with the South Haven High School class of 2002. He married Geraldine Ridley on October 8, 1949. They shared 54 years in marriage before Geraldine’s passing in October, 2003. Cecil worked at Everett Piano in South Haven for 35 years as a lead mill person and carpenter. He served as an auxiliary police officer for South Haven Police Department for 12 years. He was a peach farmer and a motorcycle enthusiast who appreciated Harley Davidsons. Cecil was also an avid gun collector.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, son – James Hunt, sister – Barbara Ridley, and grandsons - Dennis Pearce, Jr. and Michael Crawford.
Cecil is survived by his children – David (Barbara) Hunt of Prattville, Alabama, Diane (Duff) Parrish, Brenda (Mike) Gallas, and Pam Scharba all of South Haven; siblings – Dorothy Rithmel of Holland, Lu Wolf of Melborne, Florida, Charlie Hunt of Batesville, Arkansas, Don Hunt, Carolyn Pettis, and Allen Hunt all of South Haven; eleven grandchildren; best friend, Cecil’s Dog – Riley; sixteen great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank all the individuals who helped care for Cecil, especially Sara, Michelle, Joy, and Anna.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home in South Haven. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 12:00 PM with Pastor Travis Wilson officiating at the funeral home. Contributions may be made in Cecil’s memory to the Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 06321 Blue Star Highway, South Haven, Michigan 49090. Cecil will be laid to rest at Lakeview Cemetery in South Haven.
