Sylvia was a formidable Scrabble opponent and I enjoyed our matches while staying in the "Tree House". Sending good thoughts-

To the whole Van Strien Family, and especiallyto my neighbors Linda and Mark, I wish to espress mymost sincere condolences. I met Sylvia soon after I came to South Haven, and we got to know each other while wall papering the Pastor’s home. Later we served in Steven Ministry together. Sylvia was the embodiment of how a Christian woman should act, speak, and like. She was kind and sincere. I know you will miss that wonderful smile. God bless and keep you as you adjust to your parting. We trust she is with Jesus and rejoice in His promises! Sincerely, Barbara Hartgerink

Dear Family, We enjoyed sooo many beautiful June weeks in cabin 3 and visited other cabins, too, over the years. Our son was also married on her beach, so lots of lovely memories. Sylvia was always the ultimate hostess! The cabin was immaculate and always so stylish. We will miss her greatly! Our prayers are with you all, as you move forward with this void in your lives. Such a beautiful person! The Harper’s

Dearest Nancy, and to the extended VanStrien family: We were so sorry to hear of your mother's passing. I know what an arduous journey you have been on the last few years. I know, too, our minds prepare us, following all the advice on how to deal with aging parents. But, when faced with loss, words only offer so much comfort. I do wish your family the strength to walk these next difficult days; I hope your faith can sustain you, and know that Bob and I are thinking about you. With love, Paula

She was the classiest person, I've ever known. So proud to be her grand daughter.

Sylvia and John were our neighbors when we lived in Bangor. Their daughter Linda was babysitter to our boys Willie Jr and Damian. Have many fond memories of this family. Delores and I are so sorry for the loss of a mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. We are praying for our Savior Jesus to bless, comfort, bring peace and strength to all of you. Yours Always, The Proctors Willie and Delores Brentwood, Tennessee

I had the distinct pleasure of working along side Sylvia during our hospital Auxiliary days and when Sylvia and John graciously provided me a space in their store for my gift shop. Always supportive and kind. We offer our deepest condolences to the family. Mary and Steve Diebold
