It is a rare and enduring treasure to be accepted into another's family as one of their own. To share in their love, laughter, tears, gatherings, celebrations, losses and lives...to know that they will forever be a part of your history, your life, your meaning--well that is simply remarkable. In many ways, however much the distance and however long the periods of separation, Dorothy Hoover was, is and will forever remain an extension of my own wonderful mother. They knew and loved one another through their sons and the incredible bond we have shared all of these years. That means so much to me. Dorothy Hoover was a true matriarch, fierce in the love, devotion, protectiveness and pride she showered upon her exquisitely deserving family. Her humor, beautifully irreverent at times, instilled and emboldened those around her--especially her family, immediate and extended-- with the freedom to let their own freak flags fly, no matter the moment, the place or the company. She was intelligent, intuitive, insightful, kind, charitable and strong. She was truly a special person and unlike her physical presence, her love, her soul and her meaning to anybody and everybody lucky enough to have been embraced by her in this life, will remain a perpetual, imperishable and eternal beacon in the hearts she touched and the ever so fortunate people she loved. A job well done and a life well lived Dot. Like so many others, I loved you then, I love you now and I will love and miss you until we reunite...no doubt over a bottle of wine and a whole lot of laughter.
