Geno Dulik was a great man. He loved his family, he liked to serve others, and he was a WWII hero as he defended the USA in the belly of a plane as a gunner. I met Geno shortly after I began my teaching and coaching career in 1970. He umpired American Legion baseball and men's and women's softball games in the summer for over 20 years. He was not only a bus driver for the high school athletic teams, he was a long time fan. In my final season with the varsity football team we ask Geno if he wanted to come on the track in his wheel chair so he could see the game better. He didn't hesitate to get as close to the action as he could. It was a thrilling moment when all the players gave him a "high five" as they came to the bench to start the game. He was an inspiration to the team that night. Geno was a pillar at the American Legion Post 49 most of his adult life. He carried his service to his country into his community of South Haven and made the Legion Post a thriving organization. Until he was no longer physically able to do the things he had done as a leader for the American Legion he put in many long hours for his post. I never lost touch with Geno through the 4 decades that we were friends. He would call me or I would call him and he would ask how the new generation of young athletes were doing. He would have some new jokes for me and I would have some new jokes for him. He had a contagious laugh and I loved talking with him person to person or on the phone. Mr. Dulik touched so many lives. When he unable to get around very well he sat and raised the bridge so beople could enjoy the shores of Lake Michigan in his beloved town. People would wave from the sidewalk or in their cars on the street as they went by him on the bridge. He was such a warm and kind man. His pride and joy was his family. He loved his wife, children, and grandchildren dearly. He was one of the best husbands and fathers I have ever known. His eyes would light up everytime he talked about his family. They were the love of his life and he would do anything for them. Geno Dulik will be missed by young and old here in South Haven. He has led a life of hard work, compassion, and loyalty. He was a man amongst men and a role model for us all. Cheri's and my prayers are with the family and friends of this wonderful man. God Be With You All, Jim McCloughan

I worked with Gene as a crossing guard many years ago. He was always a real sweetheart and a gentelman. Always had a smile on his face! We are going to miss him when we cross the bridge to the beaches here in South Haven.

Georgia, Your dad was a very unique guy and loved by everyone who knew him. He was so very proud of his children and was kind to all of your friends. You are in my thoughts and prayers; it is not easy to lose both parents within one year. I miss you. Mary Ann Antrim (Robinson) Missoula, Montana

Dear Georgia and family, We are very sorry about your loss of your father. He was a kind and caring man. He was very proud of you and your family. Geno was a good friend of my father's and later became my friend as well. Geno was my boss years ago at Central Middle School and no one could have asked for a better boss. He had a great sense of humor and used to make us all laugh so hard that we would almost fold in half. He made it fun to be at work. Later he helped my disabled father take care of his property in South Haven and I know Geno did not know it at the time, but he also gave my father hope when he called and they talked about South Haven. And I will always be truly thankful to him for this. Geno always looked beyond himself to help others and made a difference and made life better for everyone. Thank you Geno. For this reason and so many others he will be missed. Georgia you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. God Bless all of you at this time and always. With our deepest sympathy, Jason F. During my childhood, my family owned a house on the North Side called, "Hillcrest." Every summer my cousins and I spent many hours at the beach or running across the dreaded "bridge," convinced it would collapse as we were in the middle. Two years ago, while back in my beloved South Haven, I visited that bridge to test my courage and walk on it. I saw the brige-house and a man waving to me. Yes, it was Geno, inviting me to see the inside of the shack. There wasn't one when I was a child and I was very curious to see what was in there. I spent time talking to him, taking pictures, and promising to send them to him. I kept my word, sent the pictures and this started a friendship that I hold precious and dear. Over the next period of time, he sent me his wonderful poems. Hard to believe that this man, my "Bridge Buddy" had such a wonderful command of words, phrasing and thoughts. I treasure them and will always remember my friend, Geno. Sincerely, Gail Davis, Pahrump, NV

We are extremely sorry to hear about the loss of your father. Our families go way back to the neighborhood on Jones Ave and your father always asked how everyone was doing throughout the years. Lots of memories from the ballfield as well. Please accept our deepest condolences.

To the Dulik family- Barry and I were saddened to hear of your Dad's passing. We had seen him a few times this year at the bowling alley on Thursday nights. He loved to be around people and always greeted us with a smile. YEARS ago, your Dad was my bus driver and he loved to tease me for resting my chin on my hands....told me I'd end up with high cheeks! He was a memorable, kind man! May God bring you peace and comfort during these difficult days. You are all in our prayers.

I will miss Geno a great deal. I see posts from 70 year olds, 60 year olds and me.....a 43 year old...that is a testament to who Geno was. I met Geno as a baseball player when I was 7 or 8. Geno always, I mean always showed interest in what was going on with me and how ball was going. One of the nicest guys on the field and off. I continued to see Geno often as I grew up and his willingness to talk never faded. We talked about a year ago and Geno was still the same wonderful person to me that he always has been. God has a special place in heaven for Geno and our prayers and thanks go out to the Dulik family. Rest in Peace Geno...and congrats on a job well done!

Dear Dulik family, When I think of my many years at the ball fields, Geno always comes to mind. If I was coaching, playing, watching or working in the concession stand, Geno was always there. I have the fondest memories of him both on and off the baseball field. Geno never failed to give me a big smile and wave whenever crossing the bridge. If on foot, I always stopped in for a chat. My sincere condolences. Wanda Adkin

To Geno's family - our thoughts have been with you in the passing of your dad. Geno was a special person, and he truly loved his family. One of the first memories I have of Geno was how proud he was when Georgia was born, and how be spoke of his whole family with pride and love. You were all special to "your dad".
