Dear Jan and kids, We are so saddened to hear of your loss. What a great Dad and Husband, it was so obvious to those who knew him that his family was his life! Bob contributed so much to this community, always trying to make South Haven a better place to live, work and play! He will surely be missed by so many. We will continue to pray for all of you during this difficult time.

Jan: I am saddened to hear of Bob's passing. I know words do little to ease your pain but know that we are praying for your family and for Bob as he goes to a place we only dream about. I often talk about work, good and bad as we all do, and Bob was always a light for me during the daily grind. I appreciated his willingness to talk and his willingness to listen. I appreciated his fairness, understanding and most of all his friendship and I know how much you ment to him. Matt and Danielle, you two don't know me but I have known your father for about 15 years and during that time I learned he was "One of the good guys"! We talked on many occassions about you two and it was very clear how much he loved you both. Your father was kind, caring and he is certainly in God's Kingdom.

Dear Jan, I don't believe we have ever had the opportunity to meet, but Bob and I go back to grade school days. Mike Lishamer and I are best friends and Mike, Bob and I used to hang out together through our grade school and high school years. All of my memories of Bob and of those times are good. My wife - Beth - and I now live in SW Colorado and we send you both our sympathy and our empathy - we lost both of Beth's parents (who lived with us) over the past 7 months. The loss of someone close is difficult but I feel we honor their memory best by going forward with the life they would have wanted us to have. God bless you and our prayers are with you. Bob was a remarkable person whom we are very happy to have met. Bob reminds us of the story of the Little Prince. At the end of his adventure on earth he says these words - At night when you look up at the sky, There I shall be living on a star, And since I shall be laughing on a star, for YOU it will be as if all the stars are laughing. You alone will have stars that can laugh! And when you have got over your loss (for you always do) you’ll be happy to have known me. You will always be my friend. You will always be able to laugh with me" Bob would not want our sadness but his laughter ringing in our hearts as we look to the evening sky. ~ pete

It is so sad to think that this community and the B&Ber's of SH will not have you to make us smile. Jerry and I will always smile when we think of our first meetings with you and Jan to discuss buying the Inn. You were straight forward and upfront about everything...including the long hours:) Its your fault that we are doing something we love and our lives are being enriched daily by the people we meet. Thanks Bob...you were instrumental in our decision. Heads in beds is what you always said. It makes people laugh..but than, that's what you always did. A big smile and a kind heart. We will surly miss you.

Bob was my daughter Amanda'a boss, mentor, colleague, confidante, and friend. He helped her from high school till the day he died. The two of them got along more like father/daughter than employer/employee. I am ever grateful for the guidance and care Bob gave Amanda. He is one of the reasons she became the wonderful person she is today. Amanda's life was changed because of Bob, and for that all of our lives have been blessed.

The passing of Bob was a great schock to me and a great loss to the community of South Haven. He was the one individual in the same business who I felt completely comfortable with confiding in....and although we did not speak frequently, I always appreciated his warmth and honesty, and his ideas on marketing our B and B's, along with ideas concerning tourism in our town. Bob will be missed by all who knew him and my heart truly goes out to Jan and their children. I really feel badly he did not live to enjoy retirement....to enjoy having grandchildren...to do the many things he and Jan dreamt about after working so very hard thuout their lives. He always told me I was his 'hero".....that "when I grow up I want to be just like you Mary". Upon reading about his death....I burst out crying for my friend....and for you Jan. He was a very giving person......we will all miss him... Sending the family prayers hugs love, Mary Hammer Alberto Quiroga

Jan: So sorry to hear about Bob. As a former president and still resident at the Landings Condos, I certainly gained an appreciation for Bob's love and passion for the Victoria Resort. Just a small story, when I was serving on the Planning Commission, Bob came before us for plans concerning the Victoria. I knew that according to the ordinance, I would have to vote against Bob. Rather than do that, I stepped down from that meeting, as I couldn't bring myself to vote against Bob. They got pretty mad at me, as you're not supposed to do that unless you have financial interests with in this case Bob, which I did not have. And so it was. We have stayed at and sent people to the Victoria, and hope that you can keep it going. Take Care, Ken Manley
